The Best of NYFW: BCBG Max Azria Harnesses

As I filter through the collections from each Fashion Week for SS13, I can't seem to get the BCBG Max Azria collection out of my mind. Despite the more conservative mid-calf lengths, high neck lines and occasional 3/4 sleeves, there was undeniable sex factor throughout the collection that was defined by a juxtaposition of soft pink hues and lace details, reminiscent of a negligee, that were constrained within an upper body leather harness. The overall effect was a seriously covetable relaxed, feminine elegance with a slightly subversive modern edge. A cheeky peek of lace bra is far too tame for next summer - a harness, over (or under) your dress, will have far more impact.

The Best of LFW: Burberry Prorsum Cape Coats

The Burberry Prorsum SS13 show was one of the highlights of LFW for me - no surprise there. The surprise was that, in outerwear terms, for once I could overlook Christopher Bailey's manipulations of the classic trench coat because there's a new shape in town to supersede it - the cape. Earlier this year, slinging your coat nonchalantly over your shoulders as though you'd forgotten it had sleeves became the way to wear it. Clearly Bailey seems to have realised that sleeves are merely an obstruction of style as he's removed them altogether for next season. Where before I saw pretension in wearing my coat over my shoulders, with this you have no choice. Perfect.
