Hello second outfit post of the week. This is a first for Dressing Miss Dolly I'm (almost) sure. My Dad's new camera lens arrived today so I've spent the day taking photos of pretty much everything vaguely interesting in sight. As I'm currently living in a caravan (long story) you can probably imagine that the wardrobe is pretty damn insufficient for someone who buys clothes. All. The. Time. So, they're all rolled up as though I've tried to strategically pack a suitcase, which makes everything seriously wrinkled. I was in too much of a rush to iron these Primark palazzo pants, but I try to go by my old theory of 'your body heat will iron out the creases' - essentially the method of ironing from the Dark Ages.

Hope you've all had a lovely day. I spent mine enjoying the sunshine in the park with my nephew and nieces, which I'm glad I did as it's now pouring with rain! I'm going to try find a spot in the house where I can actually set up the camera properly to make outfit posts look half decent. Watch this space.

I wish I could wear this today in the sunshine. How fabulous is the bikini? I love its pin-up style. 

I bought some spray-on fake tan yesterday. It says 'no streaks', but I'm streaked like a zebra (if zebras were brown and white), so I could do with catching up on the real deal. 

Feeling sleepy today after my noisy neighbours had a party outside my front door till 5am. I asked them to be quiet, and one of them proceeded to say 'someone's going to get raped in the morning' through my door! The joys of living with those kind of brainless students, eh?

I tried out one of Gem's Tuesday Tips the other day on my nails. It was to create perfect polka dots by using the end of a kirby gripped dipped in your nail varnish of choice. It was trickier than it looked, because either a tiny dot came off or too much did, hence some of the dots are a bit dodgy. I found you need a fair bit of polish on the end so that it gloops down into a perfect circle. With a bit of practice, I think this will be a good technique to make chubby dots, but I find the Models Own nail art pen to be a lot easier. I actually went over most of the dots with it to even them out.

It's a student's life

clearly a new hair trend in the making

I'm not crying in the first photo, I'm just shielding you from the horror that is me when I've just rolled out of bed. I just wanted to show you that I managed to get the Topshop sweater I was hunting down :) It's so comfortable and I just keep throwing it on with everything. Also, these are my nails that I painted last night. After revising all day, reading my magazines and painting my nails is a nice little treat. Check out my reading material this week:

House of Leaves. The page you're seeing has writing going upside down, backwards, sideways, things that should be read from the other end of the book, boxes of writing and reflections of the boxes of writing. This is the first book that feels like an effort to read, in the sense I feel I need to warm my brain up in preparation. Saying that, it is still quite good, just not what you'd call a light read.

Sunday Nails

My Models Own x Salon WAH art pens arrived this week and I'm in love with them, though this picture hasn't done justice to what my nails looked like this week. The white with Beth's Blue looked so pretty, and I'm currently polka dotting every nail in sight (I've got yellow and white fingernails and red and white toenails at the moment!). If you haven't bought them yet, definitely make the purchase because they're so easy to use. I half-heartedly attempted the leopard print like WAH show on their online tutorial, and I still don't see how she gets the print like that. Let me know if you have better luck!

I watched Amelie with my boyfriend for the first time last night and it's now reigning as one of my favourite movies. All I can say is: Fur pie doesn't sell.

You need to see the official video for this, it's so sweet and the dance makes me smile. It seemed appropriate last Wednesday when everyone was whipping out the hammocks and bbqs in our student accommodation.

Primarni Nails

When I was visiting my friend Kim on the weekend, a flash of molten gold caught my eyes, which shone from her fingertips. I instantly thought she'd had a Minx-over, because they had that famous, metallic glisten which comes hand-in-hand with Minx nail designs. The surprisingly good news? These were actually nail varnish applications from....Primark! For £3 a pack, you get 18 foil, nail varnish applications, which apply to your nails with the aid of hairdryer heat. The stupid thing is that you only get 18 nail applications, which means you don't have enough to do two full applications unless you're missing a couple of digits. We came to the conclusion that this must be a cunning ploy to make you buy more packs in order to repeatedly coat your claws. For a mere £3 though, I think they're definitely worth it. Some of the designs are a bit dodgy - pink and black, skull and crossbones anyone who's not an emo teen? However, if you choose one of the nicer designs, the result really is that of a professional manicure.

This was my friend's first attempt at doing this, so she said next time she'd try and make the edges a little neater. Aside from that, I think they're pretty good.

Sunday Nails

Yesterday, I came across a tutorial by WAH nails for their famous leopard print design on their Tumblr page. They used the nail art pens which were released as part of their collaboration with Models Own. I haven't bought them yet, but I think I'll add them to my cart as a post-essay treat as everyone seems to think they're pretty good. In the video the woman says to make disconnected triangle shapes, or kind of semi-circle shapes, which didn't work out too great on my first trial. My thumb nail in the first photo was my first attempt, and it didn't really come out looking like leopard print. It started getting a little better across the rest of my nails, but by the time I got to my second hand I went back to my old technique - random splodges - which came out much better.

No doubt if you use the art pens, and have a little more practice at the technique, then it will come out better as the tutorial shows. I hope they do more tutorials because it will be amazing to see how they do some of the more complex designs.
