Chic Weekend

Sorry for being a bit MIA these last few weeks. I really want to get my blog back on track and start posting outfit posts (how many times have I said this), but living in Devon is starting to bring on a strong bout of claustrophobia and I'm currently working on an escape plan. This could involve commuting to London everyday, so that I can complete an internship, which will be far from ideal. If anyone knows of any marketing/writing/social media jobs in the fashion or beauty industry, let me know because I'm your girl!

In the meantime, when I'm not working, my internet time is spent dreaming up lovely outfits that I'd wear on my imaginary life adventures in London.

Fashion: Stella McCartney's Paisley Pyjama Trousers

Yesterday team GB's brand new kit for the 2012 Olympics was revealed. The product of a collaboration between Adidas and Stella McCartney, the kit was showcased with a fashion show featuring a selection of GB athletes as the models. While this fashion-olympic related talk has finally given me an injection of excitement for the upcoming Olympics, sports kit will always do nothing more than remind me of much hated P.E classes at school, so it's not surprising that I was more distracted by what Stella was wearing at the event. 

Paisley's a print I have to get my head around at the best of times, so I doubt I'll ever be totally converted to sporting it head-to-toe like Stella. However, the trousers I would easily buy into. Regardless of the print, the mere concept of pyjama pants for the day is enough to entice me, and seeing Stella in this look from her SS12 collection has just brought them to the forefront of my mind.

Both paisley and pyjama style trousers were a big trend on the SS12 catwalks, so the high street has naturally pounced on them. For the Stella-look on a lower budget, I love these trousers from ASOS. A matching shirt is also available, so you can really achieve the outfit. A slightly less busy take on paisley was seen on the catwalk of J.W Anderson - his trousers were snapped up by Alexa Chung, who portrayed perfectly just how good they can look. Or, of course, you could simply buy Stella's here.

SS11: Fruit of the Season

It was a bit of a fruit fest on the catwalks for SS11, with the runways of Stella McCartney and Prada festooned with fruit-full print. Taking a diversion from the more predictable route of vibrant, summer florals, Stella and Miuccia channelled the warmth of the season with exotic prints comprised of bananas (complete with monkey companions) and zesty oranges and lemons.

Such a stand out print was a sure bet to picked up on by the highstreet, and it's an easy way to start channelling the SS11 trends. Just a kitsch pair of earrings is enough to remind you of sunnier climbs. Make like Stella's girls with clean, understated silhouettes and uniformed print, or let the monkeys run wild, and clash your colours and print with the frivolity of Prada. Either way, I'd avoid attempting the fruit hat unless you're feeling particularly Carmen Miranda-inspired, or sartorially brave.

Top 10 Resort Pieces

Today is going to be a lazy day. The proof of this is that I have so little to do in my life before going back to work next week, I'm still in bed and I don't actually have to get up for another hmmmm, let's say three hours. So, to fill the time happily, I decided to pick out one piece from the Resort collections of my favourite designers and post them on this here blog.

The decisions came about a little like this: if each designer was offering me just one piece from their Resort collections, which would I choose? Have you ever imagined such an event occurring? I think it would be both painful and pleasurable in equal measure.

As I mentioned somewhere previously in a post, the Resort collections tend to pass me by, so instead of putting up an insurmountable number of posts for individual designers, this way seemed a lot more concise and orderly for my Resort-rejecting mind.

Don't like this collection nearly half as much as last years pre-collection, but it's growing on me every time I see it. It was a close call between this dress and the following maxi, that was much more reminiscent of Erdem's silky, floral maxis '09.

Behind the scenes with one of my favourite designers for S/S 10

As you know, I loved Stella McCartney for her Spring/Summer 2010 collection, her GAP kids range etc etc. I for some reason, had never paid much attention to her collections previously...this has all been changed.

This video shows behind the scenes footage of her S/S 10 campaign with the stunning Natalia Vodianova. I always find when I watch footage of models, that there is something special about highly successful models that just sets them apart. They just instinctively know how to do it, and do it well. Britain's Next Top Models take note...

Stella McCartney S/S2010

The spring/summer collection this year was a mixed bag to say the least by Stella McCartney. Some of it seemed awkward, and at odds with the rest of the collection. I know that denim is making a come back, but a knee length, tight, faded denim skirt though very wearable, looked to me like it could only be worn along the lines of a middle aged school teacher, or just any middle aged woman with limited style. There were quite few bits actually that looked very much aimed at the older woman, however I'm digressing from the point of this blog. There were many other pieces, which I thought were gorgeous. Very sophisticated, but modern with lots of pieces in camel brown, mixed with fresh white lace. The pastels she used looked richer and more luxurious made in raw silks, than many that have walked down the catwalks of other designers, in their sheers and feminine ruffles.

The second half of the collection couldn't have differed more from the first; bold colour, frivolous volume and over-sized, whirling ruffles potentially inspired by the Spanish flamenco dancers? Concentrate on the chic and sexy side of this collection and you'll forget all about those unfortunate denim pieces...almost.
