New in at Net A Porter: Proenza Schouler SS11

If you've been a follower of my blog for a while, it will have become very apparent that I'm a huge fan of imaginary, Net-A-Porter shopping. Forget that the fact that pretty much everything (bar a pair of tights maybe) is out of my price region, a girl really can dream, right? So I'm always concocting ultimate outfits from some of my favourite designer's pieces available on the site. This week saw the exciting introduction of Rodarte to the store. Even when you become reasonably acquainted with designer price tags, it's still surprising to find Rodarte's dresses selling for upwards of seven thousand pounds. Quite the dream outfit. However, fan as I am of the sister's creations, it's the update to the site today, which has got me really excited. I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything by Proenza Schouler, and though the SS11 collection didn't quite grab me at first, I'm 100% sold on it now. So, Net-A-Porter's announcement that Proenza Schouler SS11 is in stock sent my imaginary outfit cogs into overdrive.

Although the clothes were stunning, it was the jewellery for SS11 that really caught my eye. Net-A-Porter are currently stocking just one necklace, but I'm sure they'll have more in store for us in the future. 

The cheapest item available from the range is a rope bracelet, retailing at £130. The prices run up to £260 for a tee, to upwards of £1700 for one of their famous PS1 bags or a tweed-jacquard jacket. 

Pointless as online-window shopping must seem to some, it will seem a most practical idea should I make my millions any day now.

Yesterday evening, while indulging in my day of nothingness and reading through Vogue, I got to imagining what it would be like to have Net-A-Porter as my wardrobe. Can you imagine?! Of course, for a lucky few in this world, this is pretty much their reality, but for the rest of us...what a dream! Whenever I go to Net-A-Porter, I always look through the dresses first, then the shoes, followed by coats, bags, jackets and trousers respectively, which explains why my choices are a tad dress heavy. But if I had to go right in and make an instantaneous selection, supermarket sweep style, these would definitely be my top choices.

The Fashion Week Round Up

If you followed my 'Top 5' lists, which summarised my top 5 (unsurprisingly) shows from each fashion week, then this post will seem a logical conclusion. Throughout the next few weeks, once I've got a bit of headway on my uni work, I'm hoping to write my own little reviews of my favourite shows for AW11. I'm no Sarah Mower, but I feel the need to get the old fashion-writing cogs in motion again, so expect to see a more in depth view of the following shows which stunned me.

Proenza Schouler S/S Campaign 2011

The spring/summer shows for 2011 are hazy memories now, especially in the midst of the current couture in Paris and the upcoming excitement of February's fashion weeks. This makes it extra-specially nice to be reminded of the beauty of some of my most favoured collections, namely Proenza Schouler. 

The colours and details of their collections always leave me totally spellbound, and it's a welcome treat to be reminded so artfully of their excellence. Find below a video of one of their most recent campaigns being recreated in paint. The skills of Igor & Andre are equally awe-inducing. I'll forever wish that I had such a talent with a paintbrush.

wednesday wishes (on a weekend) 8

So Wednesday Wishes is taking place on a weekend this week, because I'm completely overloaded with uni work. I've kind of forced myself to live like a hermit this week though, and now I can almost see over my mountain of books I thought I'd give a bit of time to the blog. 

If you're on Twitter make sure you're following Erdem. Somehow I didn't know Erdem even had Twitter until Most Curious tweeted him. That day he had posted a photo of the fabric Daschund 'ice skating'. As a Bulldog and Daschund lover, I wish I had this guy sat on my desk right now. Sadly, at £150 he's not going to be sat there any time soon. Another thing on the wish list which won't be mine in the near future, is this gorgeous PS1 satchel in the most delicious raspberry colour. It is my absolute favourite bag of the season. 

Some things a little more achievable on my wishlist come from Miss Selfridge and good old Topshop. I spied these suede shorts over at Cocos Tea Party the other day. I fully expected them to be a designer label, but to my happy surprise they're £34! I hope my Dad is reading this because he's wondering what to buy me for Christmas, and these would be ideal. The ring is £12.50, another bargain, and it speaks for itself really.

As any long term Miss Dolly readers will know, I've been obsessing over Alpine themed knitwear ever since the D&G show for this season. I've still not got round to buying any yet for reasons unknown, but I'd pair this jumper with my leather shorts and thick knee socks. Does anybody else get looked at like they're crazy if they wear knee high socks out at the moment? I was wearing a coat, a scarf, a cardigan, a thick dress, gloves and ankle boots, but because I had an inch of thigh showing from my super thick knit thigh high socks, people were looking at me as though I was running naked through the cold!

I was so stupidly obsessed with Proenza Schouler's last collection that nothing really had a chance of topping it, so I'm not too disappointed that I don't love their s/s 11 stuff as much. It's a bit of a 'grower' collection, because every time I go back to it I like it a little bit more. The first part proved Jack and Lorenzo's capabilities of being able to cater for the 'lady who lunches'. Think knee length skirts teamed with a buttoned up shirt and a Chanel style tweed jacket (edgier and far less prim of course). I can't wait to see this new breed of Proenza Schouler lady taking over the tearooms, because the heavy, super long necklaces, loose, slouchy shapes and cool, black shades blast a youthful freshness on the whole traditional propriety of lady-like dressing. 

While the tie dye prints reminded us that this was in fact a Proenza Schouler runway, nothing served to tell us as clearly as the neon brights that have come to distinguish the brand, which sauntered down it with a laid back elegance in the second half of the show; at first with a little flash of a triangle bra and then full on bursts of florescent yellow made ever bolder with the darkness of black. Light, negligee-like dresses in warm volcanic shades were a favourite of mine, as was Abbey Lee's yellow version worn with a gladiator sandal, leather boot hybrid.  The highlight, however, had to be the jewellery. I haven't loved necklaces like this since Holly Fulton's stunning geometric designs when she first came on the fashion scene.

Top 10 Resort Pieces

Today is going to be a lazy day. The proof of this is that I have so little to do in my life before going back to work next week, I'm still in bed and I don't actually have to get up for another hmmmm, let's say three hours. So, to fill the time happily, I decided to pick out one piece from the Resort collections of my favourite designers and post them on this here blog.

The decisions came about a little like this: if each designer was offering me just one piece from their Resort collections, which would I choose? Have you ever imagined such an event occurring? I think it would be both painful and pleasurable in equal measure.

As I mentioned somewhere previously in a post, the Resort collections tend to pass me by, so instead of putting up an insurmountable number of posts for individual designers, this way seemed a lot more concise and orderly for my Resort-rejecting mind.

Don't like this collection nearly half as much as last years pre-collection, but it's growing on me every time I see it. It was a close call between this dress and the following maxi, that was much more reminiscent of Erdem's silky, floral maxis '09.

Proenza Schouler: A/W 2010

As far as I can remember, this was the first time that the first look sent down the runway had such an effect of me. The dark hair, vampish lips, white skin and the scribble print that makes your eyes dance, made quite a dark and scary first impression. I was holding Proenza Schouler's vibrant, surf inspired collection from last season in mind, and wow, what a change.

Grandma knit sweaters over the top of stark white shirts, buttoned up to the neck, were a disconcerting combination. Dresses, belts and in particular, collars and that strip down a shirt where buttons should be, were made in leather, giving a cool edge to the Gothic feel of this collection.

A predominant trend of NYFW so far seems to be the reworking of the preppy, school-girl look, and it's been interesting to see how different designers have played with it. Proenza Schouler add a lot of texture to theirs with heavy, long furs in navy hues and sleek black. I think what gave this collection such a creepy factor for me was it reminded me of psychopathic characters in horror films. They kind of looked like a mysterious girl in school , who turns out to be murdering off the other students one by one.

As the collection progressed colours were introduced in the palette of a bruise; black-green, pallid-yellow and threads of navy blue. I particularly liked the long-sleeved, empire line dresses with mesh panels across the chest - a perfect look for autumn.

Further down the line, the collection became more reminiscent of spring/summer, with a day-time sky blue, and dresses with quite a pretty, paint speckled print.

The collection was really strong and very wearable. I wish I could buy at least half of it. Definitely, one of my favourites from NYFW, up there with Preen.
