Style for the Weekend

The bonus of working 9-5 Monday-Friday is that you literally live for the weekend. Every Friday morning I wake up so much cheerier thinking about my impending lie in. I also know that I'll finally be able to get in a sneaky bit of shopping, which is ruled out during the week. Unfortunately, this weekend I'm moving into my new flat, so I'm undoubtedly going to be paint splattered. A Phillip Lim bag and Helmut Lang leathers probably won't be the most appropriate wear for that, but it would be my style choice for ambling around furniture stores trying to find bargains!

For some reason, I've been obsessed with this Topshop knit for ages. Not sure why as it's pretty nondescript, but you could wear it with anything and I have a bit of a thing for snuggly knits. The other items kind of speak for themselves...

Next's Surprise

As a twenty year old university student, I don't tend to imagine that I'm Next's target consumer. I think my sister is more their type. A thirty year old working mum who wants to look stylish at home and work, with well put together outfits that don't take much thought and look effortlessly good.  She's the one who orders their catalogue, but it was me who looked at it first when it came through the door. I was completely taken aback at the clothes they have brought in for autumn. There were so many pieces that recreated catwalk looks from Chloé to Burberry Prorsum, Celine to Ralph Lauren and the best thing of all was that they had chosen the best looks from those catwalks and created inspired pieces that were coveted by me, the twenty year old university student.

Faux Sheepskin Jacket £75

By far one of the best interpretations of the aviator jacket on the highstreet. The fitted style is definitely my preference compared to the more loose fit versions, which just dwarf my frame in bulkiness.

Lace Shirt £32

The highstreet didn't make enough of this look for me. Buttoned up to the top and tucked into some black leather shorts - perfect.

Dress £40

The camel coat edged in black silk at 3.1 Philip Lim was one of my favourite looks from his show. I need this dress to channel that detailing, and the streamlined simplicity of the dresses seen at Celine.

Maxi Dress £45

Can't wait to try out this trend. Maxi's for winter seem so good right now. From the layered boho look at Ralph Lauren, to those autumnal beauties at Erdem, I haven't seen anybody working the winter maxi yet. It needs to be done.

Dress £35, Shorts £28

I don't think anything needs to be said for that faux leather dress lovely, does it?

And to top it all off Next (so far) isn't asking for too much of our money in exchange for these beauties. I'm sold.

Top 10 Resort Pieces

Today is going to be a lazy day. The proof of this is that I have so little to do in my life before going back to work next week, I'm still in bed and I don't actually have to get up for another hmmmm, let's say three hours. So, to fill the time happily, I decided to pick out one piece from the Resort collections of my favourite designers and post them on this here blog.

The decisions came about a little like this: if each designer was offering me just one piece from their Resort collections, which would I choose? Have you ever imagined such an event occurring? I think it would be both painful and pleasurable in equal measure.

As I mentioned somewhere previously in a post, the Resort collections tend to pass me by, so instead of putting up an insurmountable number of posts for individual designers, this way seemed a lot more concise and orderly for my Resort-rejecting mind.

Don't like this collection nearly half as much as last years pre-collection, but it's growing on me every time I see it. It was a close call between this dress and the following maxi, that was much more reminiscent of Erdem's silky, floral maxis '09.

Time To Dress

Philip Lim is one of the designers whose clothes I would love to wear, so badly words can't really describe. You all know the feeling, we all have our favourites.
I love these dresses - the texture is lovely. The colours of the second one kinda remind me of Rodartes s/s10 collection, with the soft yellow and creamy brown.

And on the subject of very nice dresses, this one by Peter Pilotto is stunning. The colours are gorgeous, and it looks so modern and fresh.

I can really see Emma Watson in any of these, I'd love to see her work the Peter Pilotto.

This Next

3.1 Phillip Lim

The collection I have been waiting for! One of my favourite designers, Phillip Lim, aired his collection on the S/S catwalk today, and it didn't disappoint. I've put a few of my favourite looks below, but it was hard to cut down the choice. The colour of his collection was predominantly a coral red, that reminds me of the lipstick colour choice seen on the models of Erdem. Some great coats and boxy jackets were seen, that I would love to get my hands on to see me through the cold season. A great, metal grey shirt was finished with feminine, negligee-esque lace detailing. The whole look was topped with a grey sweater that provided the perfect combination of masculine and feminine sexiness. 

Overall, I loved this collection. It had an effortless, casual, not-trying-too-hard essence about it that looked very cool.

Also, a pea-soup green is sneaking its way throughout the catwalks, that I can't decide whether I like or not; even in Phillip Lim's collection. What do you think?
