Designers Recreate Disney Princess Gowns For Harrods

A small dream of mine was made a reality today when Vogue released an array of sketches by some of the fashion industry's leading designers. Nothing special about that, apart from the designs were recreations of Disney's most loved princesses. As someone who longed to be Belle as a child (she's the best one and I still do), it's a happy day to see the iconic dresses of my childhood dreams be brought to life as an adult, by the people I now admire. The dresses have been designed for the iconic Christmas window display of Harrods' and will include designs by some of my favourites including Elie Saab, Valentino and Marchesa. Saab's looks like it will be exquisite! 

For real Disney fans there is also a pop-up Princess boutique now open on the fourth floor of the store and the dresses will be revealed on the 1st November.

Valentino Confirms He Will Design Anne Hathaway's Wedding Dress

I was just about to write a post about how stunning Anne Hathaway looked at the New York City Ballet Gala last week wearing Valentino Couture, when I saw that Vogue.com had just posted that 'Mr Valentino' himself has confirmed that he will be designing her wedding dress when she marries her fiancé Adam Shulman. As with most women, I've fallen in love with the romantic, fairytale princess designs that have floated down the runway in recent collections. Along with Elie Saab, Valentino would be my go-to for my dream wedding gown, too. Of course, since Valentino retired from the label almost 4 years ago, the brand has been confidently led by Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, so it's exciting to day-dream about what the man himself will create for Anne. It's sure to be something pretty special as he told E! News, 'She's a very good friend of mine. She's like a daughter to me'.

Zara's Valentino-Alike Kitten Heels

It's taken a while for me to fully come around to the concept of a kitten heel. It's difficult enough to abandon any form of a heel to wear flat shoes (which are not comfortable despite the lies people will insist on telling you), but a kitten heel? That little nubbin of a non-heel? I've never been convinced -  until now. I was almost swayed a few years ago when Alexa Chung had to be surgically removed from her Valentino studded kitten pumps, however platforms were still standing strong too, so I towered on with my 6 inch stilettos. The kitten heel saga diminished some-what over the subsequent fashion seasons, never fully able to push its tiny form into the wardrobes of the mass market, but now I think times might finally be changing. 

In Zara's latest collection for autumn 2012, a pair of nude kitten heels have emerged that bare more than a passing resemblance to the Valentino sell-outs that have come before them. They feature sequin embellishment rather than studs, which is a slightly sad indicator of their high street origins, but I still think I can find a place in my shoe cupboard to love them. I just wish I'd not been so afraid of this trend 2 years ago...

I notice that Zara have named them 'pointed medium heels'. I wonder if that's because the term 'kitten heels' is still not cool?
